You Don’t Have To Play With Yourself Anymore
ilovetoplay.com is a new social network for people looking to play with other people. Sports that is.
From their site:
ilovetoplay.com connects sports participants. This service helps you find the people you need to connect with so you can better organize your sports activities. Just about everyone and every activity in sports can use and benefit from this service: players, teams, coaches, instructors, schools, camps, clinics, facility providers (such as gyms, courts, fields, pools, etc.), game, tournament, and league organizers, and more.
It’s a cool idea - a niche social network - which is an extremely popular business to get into these days. Making money is the tricky part, and right now ilovetoplay has a bit of AdSense advertising on the site but not much more. Still, it’s early, and you can see the potential as they draw more traffic to secure sponsorship deals within the sports industry, get more targeted advertising and offer premium services.
One of the cool things ilovetoplay.com did recently was an online video commercial. It’s funny, catchy and attention grabbing - I think it’ll play well to their target audience:

Now if that isn’t a title that isn’t going to generate a lot of traffic I don’t know what is…

Ben, are you using a WP plugin for the “Find What You’re Looking For: You came here from http://www.google.com searching for…” notification?
Maki - yes I am, it’s called Landing Sites. It works for all search engines I believe.
Although there’s a bug with Google Reader people who click over and get the message that they came from Google but it leaves the recommendations blank.
Did you experience that problem?

Yup.. the recommendations were blank. This is what I got.

The plugin looks very promising indeed. I’ve always been interested trying it out but didn’t set it up because it seemed rather complicated.. or I’m just lazy..
It’s somewhat similar to the More Money Plugin I think.
Brandon - so far I haven’t had a deluge of traffic on it - so maybe you’re not in the minority. Here’s hoping I didn’t offend anyone! *smile*
Maki - ya it’s a problem. I’m tempted to remove the plugin, but first I’m going to take a crack at fixing it … actually, I should check if it’s been updated with a fix cause it can’t be that hard. With so many Google Reader users this is a fairly significant issue.
I think generally it’s a cool plugin for people legitimately coming from search engines…
Hey that’s a neat idea. I think it’s about time. After all we have social network sites on pets, why not niche group networks too. It’s like yahoo and google groups except more sophisticated.
