The secret to networking successfully is simple:

Know what people have to offer

And:

Know what people need

  • Scary isn't it?
  • What if I need to offer?
  • Jim - stop trying to over-complicate my message! *grin*

The real vision is to be able to connect others together by knowing what people are offering and what people have. Through connecting others you\'re networking yourself, increasing your network karma and succeeding.
  • I'm so confused... j/k

So Ben what do I have to offer you? :D
  • Steve - it's not just about what you have to offer me, but what you have to offer to others...

But you and I have already talked about what you've got to offer too...

Was just musing about this today Great minds must think alike :) :) Being an innkeeper, listening to what folks want and need is key to both success and survival!

I find that if you look around to what 's wanted and needed out there, you'll know what to offer and likewise what you need... Hope this makes sense. The circle game?

  • So, are you saying it's a yin/yang kind of thing?
Maybe that's my problem - hard to find the balance sometimes. No offers and all needs or vice versa.
  • Minimalism at its finest. Way to go, Ben!
  • Francie - I suppose it could be a ying/yang thing - you can't be offering or needing all the time.

Easton - thanks! I've always found I tend to ramble, writing uber-short posts stops me from doing that. But I think this post might need a follow-up... *grin*

Francie.. a the quest for focus balance and discovery... as the master in Kung Fu said... "go find balance"... a continuing journey

Ben... ah, the virtue of brevity... not to worry.. your rants get raves :) :)

  • Ben - "offering or needing all the time" Actually I think that is the natural state for most of us who continue to reach, stretch and grow as we try to maintain some balance.

But, I wasn't referring to an individual's yin/yang of offers and needs. :) What I meant is that often I go to networking events and find that as a group the offers and needs don't match up or balance out. I think that's where referrals come in - and broadening one's network.
