One of the Coolest Jobs Around – Community Manager at Akoha

AkohaThe folks at Akoha are working on something very cool. I should know – their CEO and founder, Austin Hill, is also my co-Founder at Standout Jobs. And Akoha is in the same building as us, so we get to see the team and interact with them on a regular basis.

Working at Akoha could easily be a life changing experience. Aside from the fact that they’re going after a huge ass dream and tackling an enormous and incredibly fast growing industry, I can almost guarantee you’ll learn more there than anywhere else.

And Akoha is hiring.

Specifically, they’re looking for a Community Manager.

Here’s Austin’s take on it:

We are currently trying to meet a great Community Manager who can help us build, market and promote our new web game that is going to be launching in the coming months.

The ideal person LOVES all things Web, has experience with Internet marketing, PR and social media. Most of all they should bring a TON of passion, enthusiasm and ability get stuff done to the role.

This is a critical role for our company. If there is anyone you would recommend please have them contact me directly, or apply through out http://jobs.akoha.org website.

Feel free to forward this to anyone you feel might be a good fit for this role.

For someone that loves the Web, understands and lives in social media and wants to change the world, this is the perfect job for you. Having spoken to Austin about it on numerous occasions, I can tell you that you’ll have tons of opportunity to think big, execute on your ideas, and truly make a difference. You’ll need to be an operational genius, a Get Things Done master, but also a high-level thinker, dreamer and believer.

If this sounds like the right opportunity for you, I’d encourage you to apply, but don’t just send them your typical resume. Stand out and show ‘em that you’ve got what it takes. Think of the application process like an audition. Do something funky, fun, crazy and smart.

I went to the akoha page, read their “about us” page and a few posts on their blog, but I’m still not sure what they do. It seems like they are developing a new MMORPG with more social/functional aspects. Is that the basic gist of it, or is this a top-secret project?

    Hi Bill,

The project is still in ‘private’ mode where we aren’t disclosing the full details.

What we are able to say right now is that it is a social game that involves both online & offline game play.

There is a strong social & cause related aspect to our project as well.

    Hope this helps.

I agree with RPO it would be helpful to know at least in vague terms what it is they want to achieve. What is it that they are getting excited to accomplish?

    Hi RPO & Teamwork,

The company itself is working on the question “What if playing a game could actually make the world a better place?”

It’s a big idea, with a lot of room for different types of games & approaches to building a product.

The specific role for this person would be to help us build a happy, healthy and growing community of players. Part evangelist, part community support & part community/social media marketing.

Akoha will be successful based on accomplishing financial goals (revenue & profits), market growth (number of players, player activity & viral adoption rates) and social goals (can we demonstrate that our players & game are creating real world benefit that is making the world a better place).

    Hope this helps.

Holy Moly! Can’t wait to find out more about this very interesting and intriguing sounding game – especially if it makes the world a better place!! Does it have to do with privatizing every governmental entity, you know – the IRS, the Post Office, Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, FDA, CDC, NIH, NEA, etc?

That would be such an amazing job! Unfortunately, I’m already spoken for (job wise) so I can’t take it. So Akoha is like a new social network? I’ll have to do more research in to it.
