Instigator Blog At a New Host

by Ben Yoskovitz

Finally. After 3 days of hassles with my previous hosting company to get a simple nameserver change it looks like it’s done.

Instigator Blog is now hosted at a new company. I’m testing things out as quickly as possible. If you see something wrong or something that looks broken please let me know via email or via a comment.

Much appreciated!

Same great site, only with fewer calories!

I notice no difference Ben (and that’s a great thing!)

I am looking now for new hosting. Please, tell me what you found :).

Arturs - I’m using A Small Orange.

Support (so far) has been exceptional. But I can’t speak to it more than that since it’s only been a few days.

They offer less (i.e. less bandwidth, space, etc.) but I think they do that because most companies over-promise on stuff that few people will ever really need.

I’ve heard great stuff about A Small Orange. I’m on Dreamhost and I’m having no problems except that the support guys like to tease me when I send them an email saying that I think I crashed their server.

Blue Host hosts only 6 domains, so i moved to DreamHost (and becouse of price too), but server is slow, with downtimes… Now checking MediaTemple, but biult in WordPress installation does not work, i upladed by myself newest wersion, but its not working, installed previous version, but today site was down…

I’ve tried to catch A Small Orange when they have a dedicated server available … to no avail.

I hear really good things about them and they’ve been pretty good with their emails when I’ve inquired about a server.

Good luck and keep us posted.

Mike - thanks for the comment. So far so good. They held up to a digg onslaught yesterday without a hiccup.

Support has been exceptional.

When it comes to hosting people care about 3 things:

* up-time
* performance
* support

Everything else is secondary, so we’ll see how it goes. If they run well for a few months I’ll be promoting them and recommending them happily.

You were using Bluehost, weren’t you? That’s what I use now, and I have three domains currently hosted there. But lately things have not been running smoothly over there, which concerned me, but hearing about you leaving them concern me more. The thought of moving blogs and nameservers makes me cringe…for now I’m going to stick it out and hope for the best.

One thing your new host certainly has going for them is their name - I love it!

Miriam - I was using Bluehost. Generally I think they’re fine. Better than many, I’d say. But when this site started to get hit with more traffic spikes it wasn’t holding up and the answers they were giving me weren’t good enough.

That’s why I switched.

But I would still feel fairly comfortable recommending Bluehost to people - just depends on the person’s specific needs. Hope that helps!

I were using Bluehost last year too, but there is limit only for 6 domains… :(

A Small Orange Tech Support works better than others - answers to all the questions comes in one minute :).
