Goals for 2010

Marc-Andre Cournoyer (ex-Standout employee, current CTO of SocialGrapes) doesn’t blog as much as he should. That’s a shame cause he’s a great guy, kick ass programmer, startup founder, and worth listening to. But he did write a post entitled Goals in March 2010 that got me thinking a lot about my own goals. I wasn’t ready to write anything publicly until I announced the acquisition of Standout Jobs. With that done, I can look to the future and the rest of 2010.

Hopefully I’ll keep doing this for years to come, and we’ll see if it helps me get things done. (Items in bold are already completed. And they’re not in any particular order.)

2010 Goals

  • Start a new company in the B2C space (underway – and hiring!
  • Learn how to code (in a very rudimentary way)
  • Read more comic books (done: thanks to Marvel’s iPhone app!)
  • Help more entrepreneurs get started and take their startups to the next level
  • Push the Montreal startup community forward
  • Write more frequent blog posts
  • Become an angel investor
  • Redesign my blog
  • Increase traffic to the blog by 25%
  • Surpass 4,000 RSS subscribers – on June 15, 2010 I hit 6,172 RSS subscribers.
  • Get into an exercise routine (if there was a half-bold, I’d use it for this)
  • Go on vacation more
  • Simplify my life
  • Organize my personal finances

I’m going to update this list as my interests and objectives change. We’ll see what it looks like going forward.

It may be late for a post on goals for 2010 (usually that’s a New Year’s activity!) — but bugger it, what are your goals for the next 6-7 months?

If you enjoyed this post, please share it!

I recall now I had the idea for doing this from the story of Tim Allen getting out of drugs and becoming the person he is today by doing this, he refined his technic now I think: http://www.trumpuniversity.com/blog/post/2006/0… can't remember where I read the original.

Glad I inspired you to do so and good luck with your goals!

Trump University annihilates any sense of credibility for the article. ahahah. Good article nonetheless!

Ahah, indeed, sadly it's the only reference to Tim Allen story I could find.

It's always good to have your goals laid out, and I hear that you are much more likely to succeed with more of them, if you have them written out. I have so many goals to achieve myself now that I often wonder when I will have time to relax…. – Hmmm, maybe I need to add it as one of my goals – doahh

Simplify your life?? – What do you mean by this??

On the comics I suggest The Oatmeal

Take on less projects, cut out some that I don't feel passionate about anymore.

I for one have so many goals for 2010 I don't even know where to start. Getting regular exercise and loosing some weight is on the top of my list. I mean what is more important then health? Someone once said that most rich people ruin their health making money and then spend that money on trying to get healthy again. I don't want that to happen so in 2010 health will be one of my top priorities

Very nice site. Read several of the articles. Nicely done.

It is a great article indeed. It is very encouraging to see the somebody else's goals listed like that, it makes us all want to sit down for a moment and make an organized and specific list with the goals for the short term period to come.
In my opinion, being able to see the list, the real one is much more useful than reading an article with a number of tips to be followed.

I like this articel, I really love it, can add even just by reading science..

Good look on starting a new company. If you continue to work hard your company will grow expotentially. If you want to improve your sales prospecting and marketing, you should try using a tool like SalesFuel that integrates with LinkedIn, and trigger events and millions of contacts in one portal. You should check it out. http://tinyurl.com/399oss3 . See if it helps you out.

Hello Ben I wanted to comment about the follow post but you closed the comments as a SEO I was sad at first that it wasnt follow but then I started to read the comments and seen that you had people trying to take advantage of it and it's really sad to see. It made me feel almost sick to see how people would just take a really great blog post and be so selfish and it is not like you just write a blog post before you post a blog post it takes time to write it up and make sure you got everything spelled right and what not anyways great work and sorry that the follow blog thing didnt work out.

  • http://www.mdmanandvan.co.uk Matheus

Reading more comic books.. well, i do that everyday haha
its really good to come up with a plan and trace some strategy to do during the year, if you really complete at least 60% of your list, on the end of the year you'll fell relieved couse you made some progress..

My advise about that to you and others is just to make sure you choose tasks you can complete, so when you get o the end of the year you dont feel bad about yourself ;)

  • http://www.1stclasscontracting.net robert

you have set yourself some great goals for this year hope you sucseed in them all the best, great post

    hello,
thanks for sharing this post with us.

  • http://www.instigatorblog.com Benjamin Yoskovitz

But at the same time if you pick goals that are TOO EASY you won't feel very accomplished at the end. I prefer to push on the goals and see what comes out of it. But you can stack the deck a bit too :)
