It&#039;s basically a Mario Bros clone, which is nothing special, but by the time Nintendo finally released the NES in Europe, the Giana Sisters was able to be released around the same time. So by the time the NES gained traction (instead of the cheaper C64 which had the Giana Sisters), everyone thought SMB was a ripoff of the Giana Sisters. Lawsuits ensued.
