Alain Wong Biking for a Great Cause

alain wongThe latest addition to the Standout Jobs team was Alain Wong, who joined us late last year for the big push to DEMO 08. I knew Alain was a world-class dancer, but I didn’t realize he was a hardcore biker as well. Turns out he isn’t…but he will be biking from Vancouver to Tijuana, Mexico for a great cause.

Alain is joining the folks at Agents of Change for the 3,000km bike trip to raise money for the AOC’s micro-credit fund.

In his own words:

“There are two goals to this 3000 km, 7 week ride. I’m raising $3000 for the AOC micro-credit fund, and I’m promoting micro-credit as a tool to fight poverty and empower women. All the money you donate will go directly to people in need, without overhead. So support me by donating today.”

You might not know Alain Wong, but you should consider a donation anyway. You can donate directly here. Every penny counts (don’t donate just a penny, that’s silly. Dig deep people!)

Standout Jobs is matching the first $1,000 donated.

The concept behind micro-credits is great. If you don’t know anything about it, I would strongly encourage you to do some research. Visit Kiva.org for example.

Alain needs $3,000. We’ll make sure he gets there. And you can help. Please donate to the cause.

(On a side note, these are the types of employees you want at startups — multi-talented and passionate.)

It can be done. I traveled 4th of July weekend 2005 from Tj to Vancouver over four days. I took what I needed for a 2 week vacation (which really wasn’t much more than I would have taken for the roadtrip alone) It was a life changing experience. I wish him the best of luck.
