I wonder how many companies take the plunge into writing mission statements and putting long-term vision into words, that people can read + follow.

I'd guess most companies that don't take that approach never do...but they should.

Great post! We're actually going through the process of updating our mission statement where I work. It's interesting how not having one, or at least one that anyone knows or follows, can leave a company without direction at times, or more importantly, without a sense of self.
